LONDON, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Liverpool defender Conor Bradley has been ruled out for the rest of the domestic season after suffering a significant knee injury during Thursday night's 0-0 Premier League draw against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The 22-year-old right-back was forced off in stoppage time after landing awkwardly near the touchline while chasing the ball.
Liverpool later confirmed the injury involves damage to both bone and ligament, though it is not related to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Bradley is set to undergo surgery in the coming days.
"The right-back suffered the issue in the latter stages of Thursday night's Premier League fixture away at Arsenal. Bradley will undergo surgery in the coming days and then begin a period of rehabilitation at the AXA Training Centre," Liverpool said in a statement on Sunday.
"No timeframe is being placed on his return to playing at this stage of the process," it added.
The setback is a major blow for both club and country. Bradley will miss Northern Ireland's World Cup play-off semifinal against Italy on 26 March and is now a significant doubt should his country progress further in their qualification campaign.
